Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a skin condition with patches of depigmented or white skin. It affects the psychology of the person ranging from depression to low self esteem. 

Vitiligo is an auto immune disease, where the colour producing cells of the skin called Melanocytes are destroyed.

How do they present?

 It may involve a small area of skin with few white patches or may involve a segment of nerve. It may involve larger parts of body or only peripheries like fingers, toes, lips and nose.

Treatment

First line of treatment is topical creams and phototherapy. If disease is active i.e., new patches are occurring, then systemic therapy is required. For unresponsive patches, grafting is required. Various vitiligo surgeries in our institute include:

1)  Punch grafting 

2)  Epidermal cell suspension : the latest in vitiligo surgeries. 

3)  Blister grafting

4)  Split thickness skin graft 

5)  Excision & closure for lip vitiligo
