Eczema

 

Eczema is a broad term applied to any inflammatory condition of the skin. Patients with eczema have the following problems
1.  Itching with redness and fluid filled blister like lesions or oozing (Acute stage) 
2.  Itching and dryness of the skin (Sub Acute stage) 
3.  Itching with dark / whitish discoloration of the skin and thickening of the skin in chronic stages 
Eczema can be an allergic response from within the body (Endogenous) or from external sources (exogenous). Stress is also a major factor in increasing eczema. 
Treatment 
1.  Identifying the cause as to endogenous or exogenous 
2.  Avoiding exogenous factors if present (Sunlight, some applications and preparations, perfumes, ointments etc.)
3.  Relief of itching by oral antihistamines 
4.  Topical emollients and corticosteroids
